Canary Islands

The Canary Islands are an archipelago of islands located off the Moroccan coast. The main islands are Tenerife, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, La Palma, El Hierro and La Gomera. The Canary Islands are owned by Spain, but have autonomous control.

Fuerteventura

Famous for its beautiful, white sandy beaches, Fuerteventura is the second largest of the Canary Islands. It is the nearest to the African Coast, which is less than 100km away. It is situated at 28°20' north, 14°00' west. At 1,660 kmē it is also the second largest of the Canary Islands. The nearest Canary Island to Fuerteventura is Lanzarote, which can be seen from Corralejo harbour. Fuerteventura is a hot and sunny island with little rainfall through the year. Winter daytime temperatures rarely fall much below 20c, making it an ideal winter holiday destination.
