Fuerteventura, Canary Islands

Fuerteventura is the second biggest Canary Island (after Tenerife). It is situated at 28°20' north, 14°00' west, off the African coast. It has the longest beaches of any of the Canary Islands, with over 50km of white sandy beaches. The closest Canary Island to it is Lanzarote, which you can see from Coralejo harbour.

Weather

Many websites and tourist brochures claim an average temperature of 20c in the winter and 25c in the summer. In reality, in the summer season the temperature is often in the 30s.

Coast and beaches

Its is only five minutes drive to the famous sand dunes of Flag Beach, which are popular with water sports enthusiasts and sun bathers.  Corralejo has several pretty beaches, with good snorkelling around the coral reefs.  There are plenty of idyllic beaches to explore including the blue lagoons at El Cotillo ten minutes drive away, and good surf at Majanicho close to that area.
